This week we helped make snack packs for the kids of refugee and immigrant families passing through our city to get to loved ones after being released from ICE. We created cards with warm, welcoming messages to remind them they aren’t alone and that there is an entire community of people who care.
The day started with 3 stories from the new Children’s Diversity & Justice Library about the experience of leaving home, coming to a new country, and overcoming fear. Next, we had a discussion about the difference between refugees and immigrants and what it feels like to have to leave your home. Finally, we were able to take everything we learned, combine it with compassion, and participate in a small, but meaningful service project. It was a wonderful way to learn and spread love. 💚
Phoenix + Aspen had an opportunity to experience Greek Fest for the first time!
We tasted traditional desserts such as Baklava and Loukoumades. We played games, learned traditional dances and had our faces painted. Subscribe to our YouTube Channel to see the action!
We’re so excited that our visual art piece “Hair Out Loud” will be on display at The Identity Project Art Show! this Saturday, April 21st from 6-8 PM at A1LabArts in Knoxville, TN.
The Identity Project is an art exhibition that provides community members – focusing on young people – an opportunity to express their understanding of the word “identity” through an artistic medium. Applicants are encouraged to submit projects in any medium – painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video, spoken word, etc. – to share their lived experiences with gender, sexual orientation, race, ability, gender roles, and/or any other aspects of identity. The goal of The Identity Project is to create a fun, safe, and educational event that helps individuals become more comfortable versions of themselves.
This event is free & open to the public.
Drop by and check out work from our community’s young artists!
